Leinweber Seminar: Twist Defects of (Generalized) Global Symmetries. - Siwei Zhong, Stony Brook University

Twist Defects of (Generalized) Global Symmetries.

We discuss codimension-2 defects that live at the end of topological defects. Such twist defects naturally emerge from dislocations, disclinations, and other imperfections in lattice systems. Using the massless Dirac fermion as an example, we explore the phases and operator spectrum of these twist defects at long distances. We also highlight a special chiral twist defect in the Maxwell theory, associated with its non-invertible self-duality symmetries.
