Holographic Interfaces in Symmetric Product Orbifolds

The duality between superstring theory on AdS3 × S3 × T4 with minimal pure NS-NS flux and the symmetric product orbifold of T4 offers a rare example of the AdS/CFT correspondence where both sides are under full computational control. It thus provides exceptional insight into the workings of holography, enabling detailed comparisons of spectra and correlation functions across the duality. The correspondence is expected to also capture non-perturbative excitations of string theory. However, even the holographic nature of the most symmetric branes supporting physical open string spectra, the AdS2 branes, so far remained unclear. After reviewing the situation described above, the talk will introduce a one-parameter family of interfaces in symmetric product orbifolds. These holographic interfaces were recently constructed in [2504.00078] and proposed to provide the missing holographic dual of AdS2 branes. As evidence for this identification, the spectrum of open strings stretching between a pair of AdS2 branes is shown to agree with the spectrum of interface changing operators in the dual symmetric orbifold.
