Nonabelian Majorana zero modes and their realization or not in solid state platforms.
Majorana zero modes,MZMs, which are zero energy quasiparticles obeying non-Abelian braiding statistics, may arise under suitable conditions as midgap bound states in certain superconductors. I will discuss their possible laboratory realization and why such realizations have been problematic in spite of many claims. MZMs are interesting because they are the simplest examples of non-Abelian anyons which can be used for topological quantum computation.
