EFI Colloquium - New Results From The Muon g-2 Experiment, Esra Barlas Yucel, University of Illinois

3:30 pm MCP 201

Fermilab Muon g-2 Collaboration has recently presented a new measurement of the anomalous magnetic moment of the positive muon (aμ) which is the result of analyzing the data collected in 2019 and 2020. New result agrees with the first published result from Fermilab while it also shows reduced uncertainity thanks to four times of more data and improved systematics. That brings the world average of the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon to aμ(Exp)=116592059(22)×10−11 (0.19 ppm). This talk will cover the key concepts of the experiment and the analysis techniques to measure the anomaly while it will also look into the improvements on the measurement. Additionally, we'll discuss the status of the Standard Model (SM) calculation and how it could affect the discrepancy between the experimental value and the determination of the SM value of aμ.
