EFI Colloquium - Conformal Bootstrap: From Polyakov to Our Days, Slava Rychkov, Paris-Saclay

3:30 pm MCP 201

I will start by recalling the origins of conformal field theory in the study of strong interactions and critical phenomena in the 1960’s and 1970’s. I will then focus on an algorithm to constraint and solve conformal theories known as the conformal bootstrap. We will see how this has put limits on some strongly coupled scenarios of the Electroweak Symmetry Breaking (“conformal technicolor”). I will finally show some selected applications to the study of critical phenomena, such as the very accurate theoretical determinations of the 3D Ising model critical exponents.
