EFI Colloquium - Lia Merminga, Director of Fermilab

3:30 pm MCP 201

Fermilab is America’s particle physics and accelerator laboratory. We operate the largest US particle accelerator complex with 1,900 staff members and 4,000 users from >50 countries. As we move into the next 50 years, our vision remains to deliver groundbreaking science and technology innovation, underpinned by a diverse and world-class workforce, seeking excellence in operations, and building lasting regional, national and international partnerships.

I will review the major science and technology initiatives and recent discoveries in neutrino and collider physics, precision science, and cosmic frontier and the execution of flagship projects, including LBNF/DUNE, the world’s most capable neutrino experiment, conceived, constructed and operated by an international collaboration. Significant advances in enabling disciplines such as accelerator science, detectors, and computing will be presented as well as emerging capabilities in Quantum, microelectronics and AI. I will offer a view into possible future directions in the next decade and beyond that will enable world-class scientific discovery and conclude with the laboratory’s renewed commitment to a culture of respect, inclusion, integrity and excellence that are essential to ground-breaking science.
